Great Lakes Piping Plovers begin their journey north!
In April, Great Lakes Piping Plovers begin to move northward from their wintering grounds on the Southern Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of the United States. These plovers will travel over 1,000 miles to breeding sites all around the Great Lakes basin and begin to establish territories in the next month. If you live near or regularly visit known nesting beaches for Great Lakes Piping Plovers, please report sightings to vincent_cavalieri@fws.gov.
